Sakata lay awake in his bed, nestling close up to his warm cozy cover. He was pondering a memory he had had for as long as he cold remember, before he had moved in with his uncle Raiko and his brother Kan. In this highly detailed memory, Sakata had seen the ruler of Gasterane, Lord Tsar, the evil Mage-Warrior. He had his sword gripped tightly in his hand and it was tainted with thick red blood. On the floor lay a dead women with an expression of pain plastered on her face. Lord Tsar was laughing, it sounded more like a scream though. Then there was a familiar sob and it was over.
Other then that memory he had a very intrequitly designed amulet, it had a Dragon on it and round the rim were some runes written in an ancient language. It was the only token of a previous life he never knew anything about.
“Get up Sakata, you’ve slept in. Did you not remember that we were visiting town today” Yelled Uncle Raiko from the first story living room.
“Nay I did not forget, I will be down in a sec” replied Sakata
But the truth was that he did forget
As Sakata got out of bed his amulet fell from his neck. But as always it did not fall completely but hovered just above the ground then shot into trhe palm of Sakata’s waiting hans.
It was as if it had magical powers. Sakata had never mentioned it to to Kan or Raiko in fear that they might dispse of it. All people in they’re village; Filset fear magic users or anything else to do with magic. The most feared magic user’s were the Black Robes
“C’mon boy hurry up!” Souted Raiko again
“ Ya i’m comin’” responded Sakata
He pulled on his pants, belt and tunic then flung his cloak around his shoulder’s. He pulled his hood up and ran downstairs and bumped into kan
“It’s about time, Uncle was getting impatient, he’s very eager to be off” said Kan to Sakata
Then Raiko burst in.
“There you are Sakata! I have something to give to you two boys, when we arrive in Filset use it as you like” he said while tipping a fair size pile of coins into the two brother’s hand’s.
“Let’s get going so we can reach town at a good hour said Raiko
Sakata straped on his sword to his belt and his quiver oh his back, he strung his bow and said “Just in Case”
Raiko opened the door with a creak and Sakta, Kan and Raiko set off down the road to Filset
Filset was a fair size and most of the shops had brightly coloured signs advertising their ware’s. The first time Sakata had seen Filset was when he was Five now he was 17.
“Now be good and go along, find some friends and get some candy with your money” Said Raiko
Sakata had no intention of wasting his money on some mere candy like most boys would. So he set off down to the Antique Shop.
When the two boys were gone a darkly clad figure emerged from the nearby forest. He aproched Raiko who was frozen with fear. Then with one uttered word uncle Raiko dropped dead.
Sakata was inside a freezing cold building. The temperature was not that wich enerved him, it was that suddenly a burst seemingly colder air invelopped him and as sudenly as it had started it stoped. It left Sakata with a feeling of dread. The building Sakata had entered was the local antique store.
A brightly clad figure appeared from behind the counter and with a very old tone (almost as old as some of his faded blue lether bound books) he said, “Ah, young Master Sakata I see youre back again. Are you looking for a slendid trinket for some young lady or a mysterious item with an interesstiing past to impress some of your friends?”
“Actualy im not interessted in those things but I am looking for a certain book wich I believe you have. It is History of The Dragons.”
“I see you’re still interessted with dragons. There are no known dragons left roaming this land, since the old Dragon Rider Lord Tsar killed them all so no new Dragon Rider may arrise and match his power. Ever since he killed his own dragon he has never allowed them to live in peace… Still interessted? The book is Ten bronze coins.”
Sakata paid the price then walked out of the store.
Sakata headed down the street to the tavern so he could meet Kan. He turned a corner and saw someone kneeling over a dead man. He hurried over and recognized the kneeling man to be Kan.
Kan blocked the body from view and wispered some words that Sakata could not hear. He walked closer and Sakata heard kan mutter “…I couldn’t help it… I just got here and didn’t see the attacker” Then Kan started to Soband moved aside and Sakata saw his uncle lying there as stiff as stone
The shock was completely overwhelming. Sakata felt tears weling in his eyes and then burst started to sob. The man who was like a father to him was dead.
Sakata noticed throught tears that his brother was trying to say something.
Sakata wiped his eyes free of tears as his brother said ”Follow me over to that forest I need to tell you something. Sakata obeyed but Then paused and picked up Raiko.
Once inside the forest it was deathly quiet. No birds sang and not a single gust of wind swayed the tree tops. There was a chill in the air. The brother’s breathe rose up in steam
Skata carefully laid down Raiko upon the leaf laiden forest floor then stood up and composed himself. The Kann asked “ Have you ever had a love for a certain creature that you could not explain?”
Sakata Thought deeply then answered “You may think it foolish but aye. I have always been deeply moved and interessted by Dragons.”
“Do you know why asked Kan”
“Nay”
“ You are a Dragon Rider. That amulet you wear is the amulet of the Dragon Riders”
“Could it be? I-”
Sakata would never finish telling Kan what he was going to say for at that second two arrows zoomed into the clearing. One hit hit Kan square in the chest but Sakata’s quick instinct saved him from the second.
Sakata drew his sword soundlessly from his sheath. He was prepared to take the life of the attacker who martaly wounded his brother. His sharp hearing heard a twig snap to his left and the heard a muffled curse. No little Jack Rabbit made that noise. Sakata Pointed his sword ahead of him and charged in the direction of the sound. Sakata spoted his attacker. He was a cleric of Takhisis, garbed in a night black cloak.
Before Sakata could reach the cleric he heard the twang of a bowstring and the a bloody arrow tip emerged out of the left part of the man’s chest. His legs crumpled and he hit the forest floor with a muffled boom.
Sakata looked up and there in front of him was the two body’s of his family members and behind them stood a cleric. Not an evil cleric of Takhisis but a cleric of Paladine. Beside the cleric was a huge…Silver Dragon!
Sakata stared in awe, ahead of him was a real Silver Dragon. Then his gaze fell and a huge pit formed in his stomach. The only two family members he had known and who were the most dear were dead.
He dropped down on his his knee’s and silently vowed to do anything to avaenge the death of these two special people. Sakta wept. He wept until he was left dry, it felt good to express his feelings. Then remembering that the cleric was still standing above his he wept no longer. He looked into the deep blue eyes of the cleric. The were full of compassion. The cleric sudenly spoke, “Lord Tsar has gone to far this time. Follow me, I am Elistan leader of the clerics of paladine at the resistance.
A few hours later, Sakata was going over the recent turn of events in his mind over and over again. Now instead of being the simple farm boy he used to be he was now a Dragon Rider and he was going to the resistance to help fight Lord Tsar. It was overwhelming. His toughts were interupted by the voice of Elistan. “Brace yourself were landing”
Sakata gripped the saddle tightly and his stomach did a somersault as the dragon landed. He looked down to see a huge desert and wondered where the resistance was.
As the dragon landed, two men ran out from behind a sand dune. He and Elistan jumped off the dragon’s back and it flew off into a suspiciously large lake (a lake in the desert?).
Elistan and Sakata followed the two men into a large cave in a cliff. Elistan spoke one word “ Shirak” and then the whole back wall of the cliff slide away soudlessly to reveal an underground cavern. The party followed a trail through the winding mountain. Sakata was sure that they would have got lost if they didn’t have the two humans leading the way. After walking for the good part of an hour they arrived at a huge door. One of the guides drew and large key and slid it into the lock and twisted it. The doors creaked open and right ahead of Sakata stood a huge underground city! It was amazing! With spiral turrets and glass window’s it was bigger and grander then Three town’s the size of Filset! And then Sakata noticed something unusual. There were dragons everywhere!
Sakata stared in awe and ran into the underground city. Suddenly all around him thing withered and died, the building’s crumpled and the seeemingly packed streets turnded empty. Then the most gruesome thing happened the dragons flesh rotted away leaving behind only huge skeletons full of bugs and decay. The once beautiful city was now as if it were burned down centuries ago In the middle of the dumpster like city stood a huge throne with a lone black figure sitting there as still as a statue. Sakata looked behind him, in the place where Elistan had stood just seconds before was a huge hideous beast with huge red glittering fangs. Where the two men had stood where two black robed magic users, with wild grins on there faces. Then it struck Sakata like a physical blow. He had fallen into a trap, and there right in front of him sat the mastermind behind it all … Lord Tsar!
“Son we meet atlast” said Tsar. Sakata stared at Lord Tsar with a puzzled gaze. “It seems that Raiko had’nt told you. What a pity he had to die (sarcasticly). It is true. I AM YOUR FATHER!(please don’t sue me) Your mother was a weak one. I killed her after she gave birth to you.
The dream … that woman was his mother and Lord Tsar was …His father.
Without realizing what he was doing, Sakata nocked an arrow and let it loose. Lord Tsar muttered a word and the arrows stopped then shattered into a thousand tiny little pieces. The Lord Tsra laughed an evil mocking laugh. “You can not kill me! I am all powerful! I will kill you just like your mother. Her name was Sylvia. She was beautiful but she was weak and I was powerful even 17 years ago! Yes, I was strong so I killed her but her secret lover saved you and your brother when you should have died! Oh, I realized my mistake and scorned myself, one of you could become a Dragon Rider. You could rise up in power and maybe because you had my blood in you, you might be powerful enough to kill me! I could not allow that. When I heard that I was you I searched for years intil I found you. I waited and waited until the time was right. I wove my trap carefully. I made sure to make my servants gain your trust before kidnapping you. I now he said while raising his hand, you shall DIE!
Lord Tsar started the incatation of a spell. But then all of the sudden an arrow dhattered his concentration. He stopped reciting his spell and instead screamed another to deal with the arrow. He turned his deathly gaze towards the general direction of the unseen attacker. Then to the unawares of Lord Tsar A black figure jumped from the remains of a crumbled house. He shot his crossbow up to a tree, manuevered with perfect balance and landed in front of Lord Tsar. He drew his sword and delt Tsar a blow with the flat side of his blade that would have killed any normal man. But Lord Tsar was not a normal man. He recovered quickly.
Before Lord Tsar could kill the man, he shot his crossbow again and swung right into the middle of the two dark mages and the beast. The man took his Katana and stabed one of the mage’s in the heart. Blood gushed everywhere. Before the other could reacted he pulled out his sword and with a mighty slash severed the other mages head from his body. The beast lunged at him but the man quickly ducked and avoided the beast. It misjudge his oppenant and went flying over the man but met the ground with a sickening crunch that ended his life for good.
Sakata was amazed. He might not be dying by the hands of Lord Tsar, but then he felt a hand on his shoulder. Sakata spun around quickly to gaze into the eyes of the man. He wore a black Bat like mask, with a black cape. His sword was strapped on his back and he carried his crossbow in one of his gloved hands. The whole man was black. “Follow me” said the man. Sakata did as he was told and raced off after the man with the bat mask. Sakata looked over his shoulder to see Lord Tsar sprinting after them gaining on them with every second and with the words of a spell on his lips. “hurry” said Sakata.
“Grab onto my arm” siad the bat mask man.
“What?”
“Grab my arm and hold on tight”
Sakta took heed of the man’s words and grabed his arm. The man shot his cross bow up towards the top of the cavern then hence forth pushed a button on it. Sakata felt a lurch in his stomach and looked down to see Lord Tsar’s furious face just out of reach. The crossbow was pulling them up. He could’nt believe it he was escaping! Sakata looked up to see a tiny hole in the underground city domed roof. Once they reached the hole. The two men clambered out. The light changed dramaticaly. Instead of being so dark you could barely see your out hand ahead of you it was blindingly bright. The was also different it was seering hot. They were in the middle of the desert.
“That was a close one. You could of died” said the stranger.
“Aye, To true. By the way my name is Sakata. I didn’t catch yours.”
“I didn’t give it but since you asked the name that I am called frequintly is The Black Assassin.
Sakata gasped. The Black Assassin was the common name for the leader of The Ressistance!
Could it be? thought Sakata
“I can tell by your expresssion that you were not expecting that”. sais The Black Assassin.
“Nay I was not . As you might already know ,I am destined to become a Dragon Rider. I was hoping that you and the Ressistance would accept me into your ranks and I ask that I could maybe be trained”. answered Sakata.
“Perhaps that might be possible but first and Foremost we must put as much distance between us and these cursed mountains as possible.” Sakata agreed and they set off.
Finaly after walking many miles with very little exange of words, The Black assassin sudenly stopped. They were still in the dessert but ahed of them was a huge lake that exented into the horizon.. Sakata smelled salt in the air, witch was peculiar because most lakes were fresh water. Then a thought hit him. “Could that be …” Started Sakata Then the Black Assassin interupted him.
“Yes it is. The Sea-Demon ocean. It’s not realy an ocean it just is the only Salt lake in all of Gastervane. It is situated in the exact middle of The Bronze Desert. And if you knew the underwater routes well you could travel to any extend of water in Gastervane.
“So we are in the middle of a huge dessert. Trying to flee from lord Tsar who is in the Bronze Mountains and we have no food water or supplies. AND to make things worse this water is salty so we can not drink it!”
Sakata just then abandoned all hope that he would get out of this alive. But then The Black Assassin said” You forget I am the leader of The Ressistance. I would not have led you this far had I not had a plan.” He pulled out a blue stone and placed it on the palm of his hand then he closed his eyes. Sakata caught out of the corner of his eyes some rippling in the water. He spun around quickly enough to see a towering Blue Dragon emerge from the water.
Sakata was bewildered this was just to much adventure for one day! But then Sakata remembered his last encounter with dragons. It was only thanks to The Black Assassin that he escaped that one. Sakata approched the dragon cautiously, but as if the dragon read his mind he said” Do not worry little one this is no trap of anyone’s” Sakata, reussered responded:
“Thank you Master Dragon … ?”
“Offuria, That is my name. I am the eldest female dragon in my clan” she announced proudly.
